Garden City Beach, SC Neighborhood Guide

Life in Garden City Beach

Garden City Beach is a laid-back coastal community just south of Surfside Beach and north of Murrells Inlet. It’s a popular choice for full-time residents, second-home buyers, and people looking for vacation rental properties. I’ve spent decades helping buyers and sellers throughout Garden City Beach and the South Strand. Here are a few things to know if you’re thinking about buying here.

Where Is Garden City Beach?

Garden City Beach sits just south of Surfside Beach and north of Murrells Inlet, with easy access to both.

One thing that’s a little unusual about Garden City is that it crosses county lines. Part of the community is in Horry County and part is in Georgetown County. That can matter when you’re buying property, so it’s worth knowing exactly where a home or condo is located.

What Kind of Homes Will You Find?

There’s a pretty wide mix of real estate in Garden City Beach. You’ll see oceanfront and ocean-view condos, raised beach houses, older cottages, newer construction, homes along the inlet and marsh, and residential neighborhoods away from the beach.

The right location really depends on how you plan to use the property. A full-time resident may have very different priorities from someone buying a vacation home or rental property.

Oceanfront, Inlet Side, or Inland?

This is one of the first decisions I usually talk through with buyers.

Oceanfront and ocean-view properties put you close to the beach and can be attractive to vacationers, but there are additional costs and considerations that come with coastal ownership.

Inlet and marsh properties offer a different experience, with water views, boating access in some locations, and some beautiful sunsets.

Properties farther inland can offer more space and a quieter residential setting while still keeping you just a short drive or golf cart ride from the beach.

There isn’t one part of Garden City that’s right for everybody.

Things to Do Around Garden City Beach

The beach is obviously a big part of life here, but it’s not the only draw. The Garden City Pier area has long been a gathering place for visitors and locals, and nearby Murrells Inlet has restaurants, boating, fishing, and the MarshWalk. Surfside Beach and Myrtle Beach are also easy to reach when you want more shopping, dining, or entertainment.

Is Garden City Beach Right for You?

If you want to be close to the beach without being in the middle of Myrtle Beach, Garden City Beach is worth a look. There’s a lot of variety here, which is why I don’t think there’s one simple answer to where you should buy. It depends on what you want to spend, how you plan to use the property, and what matters most to you once you’re here.

If you’re considering a home, condo, second home, or investment property in Garden City Beach, give me a call. I can help you narrow down the options and understand what to look for before you buy.
